Our Story: Innovation, Growth, and Family
Futureswiss International began in 1989 when two friends, Al Smith and Larry Rode, saw an opportunity to improve productivity in the screw machine industry. Driven by their passion for innovation, they patented two transformative products: a stop spindle retrofit and a C-axis retrofit for cam-operated Swiss screw machines. These innovations laid the foundation for our journey, marking the start of a legacy in precision tooling.
Finding New Solutions Together
As our industry evolved, so did we. Recognizing our customers' challenges, we developed the Rotary Coupling, enabling manufacturers to incorporate high-speed spindles into machines that were previously limited. This breakthrough allowed our clients to achieve remarkable gains in efficiency and productivity—just one example of how we continuously strive to push boundaries and solve problems together.
Charting New Horizons
In 2021, after decades of shared success, Al and Larry amicably decided to chart their own paths. While still sharing the same building, Larry continued focusing on manufacturing operations, while Al turned his attention to advancing live tooling. This pivotal moment allowed Futureswiss to expand its vision.
In 2022, we proudly acquired Finley Spindles, a line of tools we had been distributing for years, and began manufacturing them at our Thomaston facility. A year later, we welcomed Remote Mast into the Futureswiss family. Since 1986, Remote Mast has specialized in crafting motorized microphone stands—a perfect fit with our commitment to precision and excellence. Both acquisitions embodied our belief in merging expertise with new opportunities to better serve our customers.
A New Chapter
As 2025 began, Futureswiss was thrilled to settle into our brand-new facility in Bristol, CT. With expanded production capabilities, we’re ready to embrace the future of our growing industry. Today, Futureswiss remains a proud, family-driven business, with Al Smith joined by his daughters, Heather and Kim. Together, we continue our mission to eliminate secondary operations through creative and efficient live tooling solutions.
